Software is not meant to be hidden behind paywalls, API boundaries, or proprietary black boxes. We believe that code is a shared utility. It should be open, auditable, and modifiable by anyone. If we discover a way to make local AI faster or keep systems more secure, we don't rent access to it; we publish the code and share it with the world.

From custom quants to background orchestrators and system security monitors, all Barrer Software configurations and source directories are distributed under open licenses. True innovation happens when developers build on top of each other's ideas, not when we isolate them inside proprietary servers.

Modern computing has been distorted into a system of endless digital renting. The industry wants you to upload your files, your code, your prompts, and your security logs into corporate database clusters. We reject this dependency.

We build systems that are local-first by default. Your data stays in your living room, on your workstation, or on your private home servers. AI inference happens locally. System security baselines are calculated locally. Networks are routed via direct encrypted peer-to-peer tunnels that bypass corporate relays. Your home is your computing castle.

Centralized AI providers want you to believe that you need multi-million dollar cloud GPU farms to run intelligent local assistants. This is a myth designed to enforce lock-in. We prove that smart software design can run state-of-the-art systems on everyday, consumer-grade hardware.

Through advanced non-linear quantization methods (like the IQ4_XS Gemma quants) and highly optimized low-level runtimes, we unlock workstation-level AI capabilities on common edge nodes—from home NAS drives to laptops and mobile phones. By pooling local systems together into distributed peer-to-peer compute grids (like Ash Server), we turn scattered household devices into a private, powerful compute cluster.
